FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Homes for the Future Tour 2002: Sustainability in Action in Southern California offers a comprehensive look at eco-friendly living in the Los Angeles area on October 19-20. Sponsored by Eco-Home™ Network, the sixth annual tour showcases nine sites that demonstrate the diversity of "green" architecture, renewable energy technologies, eco-renovation, and the conservation of natural resources. On Saturday, the tour covers Brentwood, Santa Monica, West LA, and Valley Village. Sunday takes in Los Angeles, Arcadia, La Crescenta, and Sun Valley.

The unique tour allows the public to examine how individual households are incorporating innovative ways to live more sustainable lifestyles. Sites feature energy- and water-conserving appliances and systems, eco-friendly interior design, non-toxic household products, drought-tolerant landscaping that includes native plants, organic gardening, composting, and recycling techniques. Other highlights include passive solar and thermal mass design, graywater systems, and water catchment technology. Homeowners, architects, designers and environmental consultants will be on hand to answer questions and explain how these elements can be adapted to other homes.

The event is held in affiliation with the American Solar Energy Society's National Tour of Solar Homes. Tickets ($25 per day; $45 for both days; $10/$15 for students) are available from Eco-Home™ Network. For information, call 323-934-7058. Eco-Home™ is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving individual quality of life and planetary well-being through education, demonstration, and building a constituency for sustainable urban living.
