Let There Be Light
(from the Spring/Summer 1995 issue of Ecolution)

The main kitchen work area of Eco-Home has always been so dark that electric lights had to be on day and night for it to be usable, so this has been one of the prime targets for improvement in the eco-renovation.

The SunPipe is the perfect solution! A SunPipe brings natural light into dark interior spaces via a metal tube looking something like a chimney pipe, but with a highly reflective interior surface. The pipe penetrates the ceiling of the room to be illuminated, straight through whatever attic space is above and up through the roof where it is capped with a transparent dome. The opening into the room is finished with an inverted translucent dome which diffuses the light throughout a 15' x 15' area.

We are very grateful to The SunPipe Company for providing their product for demonstration at Eco-Home. The radiant natural light makes the kitchen so much easier and more enjoyable to work in. And we're saving energy!
